The Benefits of Installing a Wireless Router in Your Home

The Benefits of Installing a Wireless Router in Your Home

Most modern households now have a wireless (wi-fi) router in place, allowing a multitude of technical devices such as laptop Computers and mobile telephones to share a common internet connection without wires. If you have not yet brought a wireless router into your house, consider all of the possibilities such a device opens up for you.

While sharing a common internet connection is the primary function of the wireless routers, they can also enable the household users to achieve a variety of clever things. When you are able to have several devices share a common wi-fi connection, then those devices are suddenly able to be used to share data between them.

The new wireless set up can suddenly allow you to do something like use your smart phone as a remote control for your laptop Computer, or share a video between your tablet Computer and your television set (think about Netflix, here) or forward a docuMent from your laptop Computer to a printer, all completely wire free. No more running around the house trying to find a cord and a Plug-in.

Once properly installed, wireless networks make so many tasks a whole lot easier than ever. Consider this: if you wished to send an article to a household printer without having a wireless connection available, you would need to move your laptop computer to wherever the printer was located, or if the computer was a desktop model you would need to physically move the printer. Then you would need to find a proper parallel cable or USB (which will never be where you last remember it to be), then run it between the computer and the printer; all of this before you can even push the print button.

Instead, if you just had a wireless (or wi-fi) printer, you would only need to push the print button on any household computer or other mobile device hooked up to the same wi-fi network as the printer, and voila; the docuMent would be printed whether you were physically near the printer or not. Not only is this convenient, but think of the aesthetics. Even modern printing devices can be large and unattractive. They become far better every year, but are still not the sort of object that you might like to have on display when company or the mother-in-law drop in for a visit.

You can hide a wireless printer where ever is convenient: a cabinet, the spare room in the baseMent, or hidden behind plants in a corner. Since you can use it to print from anywhere in the house, you may similarly hide it anywhere. Just make sure that it is powered on and loaded with paper and a full ink cartridge. The wireless link will take care of the rest. Actually installing your wireless network requires just a little bit of technical savvy; almost anyone who can follow simple technical directions is capable. In turn, the time and convenience that the system will bring you is more than worth the investment.
